Why ask what I think?
You know what has changed in your life. You can describe a worry without naming a disease. Twelve doctors in Sweden who watched a simulated visit from Iran discussed different expectations about who leads the conversation and makes decisions.
What are you used to?
In a study of visits in six European countries, the time spent talking and the topics discussed varied. The reason for the visit and how well the patient and doctor knew each other also mattered. You can say what worked for you at an earlier visit.
Make room for your words
In a small Stockholm study, patients from Chile, Iran and Turkey stressed the value of a doctor who listens and a skilled interpreter. When you book, say which language and dialect you need. You can ask the doctor for a clear recommendation.
A question to ask
What would you recommend for me, and why?
